Holt Renfrew 2010 Winter Games Window Displays

by Lisa Ovens

I quite enjoyed gazing at the window displays at Holt Renfrew on the corner of Dunsmiur and Granville Street. Here are just two of the displays to see...

Ski Jump Girl? I am not sure if this display is a passive nod to female ski jumpers, but it looks that way to me. As a woman, it's tough to watch other women fight for something and then lose the battle. The female ski jumpers are looking ahead to Sochi 2014 and they should make note of the quote below, and remind the speaker when necessary...

“The IOC has indicated that there is a possibility that they could compete in the 2014 games. We will continue to do everything we can to help these athletes achieve inclusion in future games.” - John Furlong, chief executive of the Vancouver organizing committee click here for the full article

...and then remember this quote when the going gets tough...

"In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity." - Albert Einstein

Now this one is glitzy. There might be some women out there offended by the sight of pink skates and the obvious femininity. It could be a lot worse ladies: it could have been male mannequins in the pink skates and not a woman in sight.

This coming from a woman who wrote a book titled Hockey & High Heels...
PS...I'm only 5' 2" :o)
